Virgin Media's digital TV deals stand aloneTuesday, November 24th 2009 Several standalone digital TV packages have been launched by Virgin Media. Fresh from announced plans to launch new content on its digital TV services, Virgin Media is now seemingly looking to make the packages more accessible to a variety of customers. For the first time, the company is now offering its M+, L and XL services as standalone deals which do not require a Virgin phone line. Each of the deals includes access to on-demand and catch-up services from a range of top broadcasters, while the M+ specifically offers 65 channels for £11.50 a month. In contrast, the L package and XL package include a wider range of content for £16 and £27.50 a month. Virgin Media's focus has undeniably been on reinventing its digital TV service recently, what with the launch of new content such as The Wire and Six Feet Under on its on-demand service and a deal to give US dramas Warehouse 13 and Trauma their UK debut. However, will such moves be enough to attract new customers and in turn even snatch some from the biggest rival in the market, Sky? In addition, it begs the question of when the company will return to promoting its other noteworthy product its fibre optic broadband services. |
