Sky prepares for 3D digital TV debutFriday, January 29th 2010 Will Sky's preview of its 3D digital TV service prove a big success this weekend? Football fans will be able to enjoy a new way of watching their favourite players in action this weekend, as Sky prepares to preview its eagerly awaited 3D digital TV service.
While the platform is not expected to be launched officially in pubs until April, the company is planning to offer a taster by showing the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester United in the format at nine specially selected locations across the UK on Sunday (January 31st).
The 3D service will then be made available to its residential customers later this year when compatible TVs hit the market.
Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of Sky, said: "3D is without doubt one of the most talked-about developments in television for many years.
"Sky has always innovated to bring customers the best possible viewing experience, so we fully intend to take the lead in bringing the spectacle of 3D to the UK and Ireland."
The preview of the service this weekend is likely to attract a lot of attention, particularly as it will be interesting to see how well Sky have developed the concept since the original announcement about it last July.
So, if it proves to live up to the hype, will the innovative new service help Sky to increase its hold on the digital TV market? |
