Blogs - T-Mobile![]() Monday, August 2nd 2010 Mobile broadband has seen huge growth since it first launched, with consumers drawn by the ease of being able to connect to the internet without the need for a landline. Experts think there's little chance of this popularity coming to an end any time soon - last week, Ovum claimed global mobile broadband will be over 300 per cent more prevalent than fixed-line connections by the end of 2015. With that in mind, we thought we'd cast our eyes over a selection of the best deals currently on the market from the likes of 3 Mobile, O2, Orange, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Virgin Media. As far as we're concerned, the tariff which currently provides the most value for money is 3 Mobile's 15GB of usage per month package. ![]() Wednesday, September 9th 2009 The announcement of Orange and T-Mobile's imminent merger caused a stir when announced yesterday. Indeed, in a week which has seen the UK's interest in the Beatles rise once again, it seems rather apt that we also get to see two major firms come together. However, what impact will the deal have on those currently looking to buy either a home or mobile broadband package? Well, the answer at the moment appears to be none. In a column for Reuters, Which? telecoms expert Ceri Stanaway has claimed that no "big changes" to services are likely to appear in the short-term. ![]() Monday, June 29th 2009 The sight of two fierce rival broadband providers becoming one is seemingly an increasingly common one. Earlier this year, Tiscali was merged into The Carphone Warehouse's TalkTalk operations in a major £236 million deal. Now, two more providers appear to be exchanging similar glances, with Vodafone reportedly eyeing up a move for T-Mobile UK. According to the Financial Times, the latter's parent company Deutsche Telekom is looking to dispose of the company and has even called in advisory firm JPMorgan to take a look at the options for its future. ![]() Thursday, June 11th 2009 Do the UK's mobile broadband providers need to up their game in terms of connection speed? New research has suggested that could well be the case. The study by Epitiro saw services from leading operators including 3, O2, Orange and T-Mobile tested on a range of activities that web users get up to, including downloading music, general surfing and internet gaming. It found that consumers with dongles only receive 24 per cent of the advertised download speed from many providers, with the average rate not even reaching 1Mbps. The research also revealed that web browsing was 34 per cent slower than on equivalent fixed line services. ![]() Thursday, May 28th 2009 Mobile broadband connections are becoming increasingly popular with consumers in the UK, but new research has attempted to highlight the best connections available to those who are regularly on the move. In the test, Broadband Genie used USB dongles from six of the leading mobile web providers and travelled on trains between Cambridge and Bournemouth to see how connections held up. The providers that offered both the best coverage and were top for downloading content were Virgin Media and Vodafone, while the latter was also one of the most suited to uploading alongside O2. ![]() Friday, May 8th 2009 Are you aware of your rights as a subscriber to broadband services? While the answer may more than likely be no, it does not necessarily mean that you should start panicking. This is because the European Union has announced plans to publish new telecoms rules that clarify such issues, particularly the rights that consumers have when signing up to contracts with internet providers. According to Reuters, new regulations will also call on web-based firms to highlight to consumers when a cookie file, which highlights customised information, is placed on their PC or laptop. ![]() Wednesday, May 6th 2009 Since unveiling its major karaoke-themed advert on primetime Saturday night TV at the weekend, you would be forgiven for thinking that phone and broadband provider T-Mobile UK is in rude health. However, reports have emerged that the company's owner Deutche Telekom is "under pressure" to either sell or merge the business with a rival company. According to Marketing Week, the firm's chief financial officer Timotheus Hoettges has said that poor results in recent times mean that T-Mobile either needs to be merged or will go out of business. He said: "The British market is highly competitive and has comparably low margins. | Blog categories3 (7) AOL (2) Be (13) Broadband (163) BT (61) Cable (6) Cable TV (34) Digital TV (101) Eclipse (2) Home Phone (41) Mobile Broadband (38) O2 (18) Orange (13) PlusNet (5) Sky (66) T-Mobile (7) TalkTalk (23) Tiscali (4) Virgin Media (109) Vodafone (7) Blog archivesSeptember 2010 (1) August 2010 (15) July 2010 (15) June 2010 (16) May 2010 (14) April 2010 (15) March 2010 (15) February 2010 (15) January 2010 (15) December 2009 (14) November 2009 (15) October 2009 (15) September 2009 (15) August 2009 (15) July 2009 (15) June 2009 (15) May 2009 (15) April 2009 (3) March 2009 (8) |
