Broadband Bundles Explained

There was a time when your broadband internet connection would have to be purchased and paid for independent of your home phone line rental and call costs, and each month you would also be forking out more money to a separate media company for your subscription digital TV service. All of this was not only expensive but also complicated to track, and it meant that you had to make many different decisions when kitting out your home with all the digital media and communications technology that is expected in today's world.

However, the world of broadband internet has changed significantly over the last couple of years and there are now a wealth of broadband bundles out there that offer triple or quadruple play services. What this means is that there are broadband bundles that you can sign up for that will offer you not just an internet connection but also the option to include a landline telephone service and a digital TV package all as part of one easy payment each month.

As with any type of subscription service you will need to be in an area that is eligible for all three of the options that you wish to sign up for, and you can often mix and match and choose just a broadband and telephone bundle or just a broadband and TV bundle, so there is quite a bit of flexibility. Here's a quick overview of the main broadband providers and the bundles they offer. There are broadband bundles to be had from a variety of sources and you should definitely shop around and choose one that sounds right for you rather than one that is highly rated by others.

Virgin Media

If you live in an area that is covered by Virgin Media's cable network then their broadband bundles are probably your best bet. They even offer a quadruple bundle which includes digital TV, broadband, home phone and mobile phone in one package which is the ultimate conglomeration of all your entertainment and communications packages, but this kind of full on deal may not be for some.

They also offer a variety of combinations of triple deals and double deals. For example, one of their best value triple deals includes up to 10Mbps fibre optic broadband, unlimited weekend calls to UK landlines and digital TV with over 40 channels. If you want their most expensive package you can get broadband at an incredible 20Mbps, nearly 200 digital TV channels and unlimited anytime calls to any UK landline, but this will of course set you back a pretty penny. Because Virgin's cabling only reaches around 55% of UK households you may have to look elsewhere.

Tiscali

If you want to keep your existing landline but also want a broadband bundle that includes phone, internet and TV then a recent alternative to BT has come in the form of Tiscali. Originally just and ADSL broadband ISP, they moved into offering home phone packages with their broadband, and now offer something called Tiscali TV. This is a form of digital TV which is received via your phone line, and the Tiscali variety pack offers 70 popular channels with 7 day catch up similar to BBC's iPlayer so that you can't miss your favourite programs. Unlimited 8Mbps broadband and weekend UK and International calls are also included in their three way bundle, as is line rental so you'll no longer need to pay BT for the privilege.
