Digital TV & Broadband Bundles Explained

In the past there were only two options when it came to digital TV, and the choice was between the subscription digital services offered via satellite or cable. However, with the digital Britain revolution being forced into motion and the digital switchover in 2012 looming, there are tons more options when it comes to choosing your digital TV provider, some of which come bundled with broadband internet packages. Thousands have already experienced the convenience of opting for a digital TV and broadband bundle, and it's also a great way to save money as you'll often get discounts for combining the two.

Satellite and cable digital TV services have been given competition from Freeview, the free to air terrestrial digital TV service, and also by IPTV services offered by Internet Service Providers for customers of their broadband packages. Let's take a look at the various digital TV and broadband bundles that you can choose today.

Satellite Digital TV and Broadband Bundles

Sky offer broadband services to new and existing customers of their digital TV packages, and up to 16Mbps download speed is attainable in certain areas on their Max package for £15 a month. Of course any digital TV package can be combined with any broadband service, so you can go for the basic channel packages to suit your tastes and choose the quickest broadband, or just get the basic 2Mbps service for £5 a month and go all out with Sky+ HD.

Cable Digital TV and Broadband Bundles

Virgin Media's fibre optic cable network is available to a slim majority of homes in the larger urban centres of the UK, and flexibility is again the main selling point. Up to 10Mbps broadband and digital TV with over 100 channels and access to on demand video via the BBC's iPlayer service is just £31 a month. If you want even more value for money, for just £36 a month you'll get all of this plus the V+ HD Personal Video Recorder so you'll never miss a minute of your favourite shows and movies.

IPTV Digital TV and Broadband Bundles

Both BT and Tiscali are now offering digital TV services in unison with their broadband services, with BT Vision and Tiscali TV. Both come with their own set top boxes, available with built in storage capacity for recording shows, as well as access to selected programmes from the last days whenever you like, and of course movies on demand. Tiscali's digital TV and broadband packages start from £19.99 a month with a 12 month minimum contract, whilst BT have offers from £14.63 a month with an 18 month minimum contract.

Both of these IPTV services give you access to Freeview channels using your existing aerial, and it's important to use the internet to check whether these services are available in your area. With virtually every digital TV and broadband bundle there will be some restrictions on the service and additional installation costs, so inform yourself and read the small print before you commit to the contract.
