Virgin Media VIP Collection review
Update: Virgin Media collections are now discontinued. In their place are Virgin Media's Big Bundles. It’s Virgin’s biggest, most expensive collection. With the fastest widely available broadband in the country, a vast array of channels and a decent call plan.
Then there’s the 1TB TiVo box, an additional HD set-top box for watching, the new Super Hub router, catch up and on demand TV, plus free servicing and repairs for as long as you remain a customer. You can see why Virgin Media named it the VIP Collection, but is it worth the price?
What you get
The VIP Collection is designed for people serious about our home entertainment, like large families or student households who spend lots of time online, make lots of phone calls and love to watch TV.
You get a 1TB TiVo set-top box plus a free V HD box that allows you to watch (but not record, pause or rewind) TV in another room. There’s also free installation, set up and a demonstration from a Virgin Media engineer if you order online.

What you don’t get
The only omissions from the VIP Collection are Virgin Media’s extra channels, which can be added to your subscription for an additional monthly fee. These include Box Nation, MUTV and Racing UK for sports fans, plus Baby TV and Picturebox. Adult channels like Playboy TV, The Adult Channel and Television X can be added separately in a bundle, as can Asian channels Zee TV, Zee Bundle, Set Bundle and Star Bundle.
You’ll pay £52.22 (plus £15.99 line rental) for the first six months of your VIP Collection contract, which increases to £104.45 plus line rental for the remainder of the 18 month term.
Virgin Media is currently available to around half of the UK population and the network is expanding all the time. Find out if you can get it in your area using the postcode checker below.
What are my alternatives?
Virgin is unrivalled on broadband speed at the moment so it’s way ahead of the competition on that front. However, if speed is of less importance to you (or you can’t get Virgin in your area), Sky is a great alternative. Sky Bundles offer a variety of TV channels to suit different tastes, with the option to bundle in standard or fibre optic broadband up to 76Mbps plus a call plan.
The VIP Collection is the daddy of broadband, TV and phone packages, but it comes with a high price that jumps to over £120 (including line rental) after the first six months. We would argue that while it's a completionist's paradise, there's too much here to make the pound-to-consumption ratio truly worth it.
While it’s worth it if you watch TV and download 24/7, for everyone else, Virgin’s other collections might be a better – not to mention more sensible – fit.
