Bournemouth edges close to Fibrecity broadband statusWednesday, February 24th 2010 Work to install fibre optic broadband services across Bournemouth is progressing on track, it has been revealed. Efforts to install fibre optic broadband services in Bournemouth are on track to be completed at the start of next year, according to reports. The area is set to become the UK's first Fibrecity thanks to work by the company of the same name, which is installing cables throughout the location's sewer network in order to connect homes. Bournemouth Echo reports that the fibre optic broadband network will offer speeds of up to 50 times faster than the average currently available in the UK. Deborah Lear, spokeswoman of Fibrecity, told the newspaper: "We are doing our best to do this work responsibly and can connect up to 300 properties per day so the work is quick." It was recently announced that high-speed broadband services are being launched in Herefordshire's Rotherwas business park. The £20 million Rotherwas Futures project, a joint venture between Advantage West Midlands and Herefordshire Council, is behind the plans.
