Sky's Jeremy Darroch has announced his support of government anti-filesharing measures.
Broadband provider Sky chief executive Jeremy Darroch has commended the government for its stance on illegal filesharing.

Mr Darroch claimed that piracy was having a huge impact on the content industry and said laws that would penalise broadband providers were necessary, reports Digital Spy.

Speaking at the Mip TV conference in Cannes, Mr Darroch was reported by the news provider as saying that people using high speed broadband to share copyrighted material illegally were "capable of ripping value out of content creation".

"No one here today will be under any illusion that illegal downloading is not a niche activity by a few geeks. It is fast becoming seen as normal practice," he said.

Adding: "That is dangerous. We need to see online piracy for what it is: theft, pure and simple."

Earlier this month, broadband provider TalkTalk said it would continue to battle the government's "oppressive" digital economy bill - which incorporates harsh file-sharing penalties - despite the fact the bill has been enshrined in law by parliament.

hear hear! Jeremy Darroc!

Good to see someone with guts enough to stick up for content holders for a change!

It is tough to make any comments online as the digital pirate community are a bunch of bullies running around all over the internet terrorising anyone on blogs, wikipedia, forums and twitter who have a different viewpoint to them on this subject.

I commend you!
