Broadband speed up for debateOne expert has stated that broadband speeds are up for debate among many consumers, proving how important having fast internet is to people. Broadband services in the UK are a hot topic of conversation at the moment, especially in light of last month's Digital Britain report.
Writing on the company's blog, TalkTalk's senior director of products and alliances Sylvain Thevenot said that the majority of discussion has focused on whether a universal speed of 2MB will be reached in the next three years.
He suggested that this debate highlights how important broadband speed is to users.
The expert added that people's broadband speed is dependent on a number of factors other than their homes' distance from the exchange and advised people to embrace the "self help" measures outlined in the Digital Britain report which can help boost speeds.
He concluded that TalkTalk offers some of its own measures for upping broadband speeds such as its Turbo Boost that ensures users get the highest speed their line can handle.
Last month, the Commission for Rural Communities called on the government to amend its plans for universal broadband to offer higher speeds as the proposed level of 2MB will not be sufficient to cope with demand for access in some countryside areas.
