BT extends broadband coverage to half of UK homesMonday, February 8th 2010 BT's wholesale broadband products are now available to half of the UK's homes and businesses. BT has confirmed that its wholesale broadband offering reaches half of the UK's homes and businesses.
According to the firm, its 21st Century Network-based Wholesale Broadband Connect product, which offers download speeds of up to 24mbps over a standard ADLS2+ line, is available via 730 exchanges across the country.
The company's Wholesale Broadband Connect product crossed the "iconic 50 per cent threshold" half-way through January of this year.
BT Wholesale's director of broadband and content services Sian Baldwin said: "Already more than 550,000 end-users are enjoying our ADSL2+ copper next-generation broadband service, with 20-30,000 more being added each week.
"Running over BT's 21st Century Network, Wholesale Broadband Connect offers greater control, choice and flexibility as well as higher speeds."
She added that the product supports the growing demand for high-speed data transfer rates, which are essential for modern internet uses such as digital TV and online gaming.
