BT fibre broadband could still come to Barrow, says expert
Harry Knowles, chief executive of communications firm Furness Enterprise, told the North West Evening Mail he intends to lobby the telecoms giant in a bid to bring the technology to the area.
The town put in an "incredible effort" in the Race to Infinity, he claimed, pointing out Barrow was only beaten by the "prosperous" south-west community of Malvern in terms of areas that had a substantial number of votes to hit in the scheme.
"In some respects we demonstrated we have a real appetite for this and essentially we want to make sure Barrow is included in plans for super-fast broadband," Mr Knowles commented.
On announcing the winners of the scheme, BT promised it will engage with any other parts of the UK where at least 75 per cent of homes and businesses voted to receive the technology.
