The company signed up 188,000 new broadband customers in the final quarter of 2010.
BT has reported a "good" quarter for broadband additions in its latest financial publication.

In the three months to December 31st 2010, the telecoms giant attracted a net total of 188,000 subscribers, taking its share of new customers in the DSL and LLU markets to 53 per cent - its highest level for eight years.

The company attributed this result to the success of its broadband strategy, which includes its fibre optic broadband product - BT Infinity - as well as its Wi-Fi access points and its Plusnet subsidiary.

However, its total revenue stood at just over £5 billion, down three per cent on the corresponding three-month period in 2009.

Chief executive Ian Livingston said: "These results show that we are making progress on a number of fronts."

BT is currently working on deploying its super-fast broadband service in 41 market towns and villages across the UK, with around 300,000 properties set to get access to the technology by spring 2012.
