BT Vision and fibre broadband services enjoy surge in customer numbers
BT's digital TV and super-fast broadband products performed strongly in the second quarter of 2012.

BT has reported a rise in subscribers to its fibre optic broadband and Vision digital TV services during the three months to June 30th 2012.

More than 150,000 super-fast broadband customers were added in the quarter, taking the subscriber base to over 700,000 households.

The telecoms giant's copper broadband service also enjoyed growth, with connections rising by 85,000.

BT Vision, described by the company as the UK's fastest-growing digital TV product, added 21,000 subscribers during the three-month period.

A total of 728,000 homes are now signed up to the service.

BT will no doubt be hoping for further growth over the coming months after securing the rights to broadcast 38 live fixtures from the Barclays Premier League each season between 2013-14 and 2015-16.

These matches will be the highlight of a new football-focused channel set to launch on BT Vision in the next calendar year.

Earlier this week, BT announced it will begin offering BT Vision Essential free to customers signing up for its TV, broadband and home phone bundle.

BT Vision Essential allows subscribers to pause, rewind and record live TV from up to 50 Freeview channels, and access catch-up services from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
