
Plans have been announced to improve broadband access in rural Scotland.
A leading broadband provider is collaborating with the Scottish government to improve internet access in rural parts of the country.BT is to work on upgrading telephone exchanges in remote areas in an effort to provide increased broadband capacity in locations where access in not possible.
John Swinney, the country's finance secretary, said the government and BT are beginning to recognise "the frustration" seen in some rural communities on the issue of poor broadband access.
He added: "We are pleased that a way forward has been found allowing an exchange upgrade programme to take place.
"This will enable more residents and businesses to benefit from a broadband service which people in most areas of Scotland already enjoy."
BT recently confirmed it is trialling Broadband Enabling Technology which is designed to offer quality web services over much longer distances than current systems allow.
