BT urged to bring universal fibre broadband to Malvern business park

Friday, August 31st 2012 by Paul France
BT 'must bring super-fast broadband to Malvern's biggest business park'
BT is not planning to deploy super-fast broadband to the whole of Malvern's Enigma Business Park.

BT's super-fast broadband rollout in Malvern is set to miss parts of the town's largest employment site.

The telecoms giant is working to bring fibre optic broadband to thousands of homes and businesses in Malvern Wells, Malvern Link and West Malvern.

However, when the deployment is complete, many firms at the Enigma Business Park will still be stuck with slow connections, reports the Malvern Gazette.

More than 125 companies employing around 1,500 people are based at the business park.

West Worcestershire MP Harriet Baldwin said it is unacceptable that the deployment will not extend to the whole of the complex and is calling on BT to rethink its plans.

"I have written to BT to find out why certain cabinets are going to miss out on upgrades and how they reach this decision," she explained.

Councillor Phil Grove, portfolio holder for economic development at Malvern Hills District Council, added it is "crucial" that businesses are able to access fast broadband.

Earlier this year, a report from Regeneris Consulting claimed BT's fibre broadband rollouts delivered a £48 million boost to Worcestershire's economy in 2011.

The one cabinet that BT claim is being updated to fibre was supposed to go live on January 1st 2012 - this has constantly been put back and the checker is now saying Dec 31st 2012.
How can a business park containing so many companies - a lot of which are high tech - still be waiting on Infinity. Time we had some answers!

Because BT want business to use expensive lease line solutions

they should of rolled fibre out to businesses to start with and charged £500 install and £100 a month - this would in turn pay for the roll out to the public

then BT should of rolled out to spots that ADSL can't cover forcing people that want faster internet to pay for it

give that a couple of years then drop the price like they did with ADSL

orange 4G (sorry EE) will force BT to roll out fibre faster or lose business
