ESPN and Sky confirm opening Premier League live games

Televised Premier League games announced by ESPN and Sky
The season will kick off with ESPN's coverage of Newcastle United v Arsenal.

ESPN and Sky have confirmed their opening fixtures for the 2011-12 Premier League season.

Sky's coverage of the top flight of English football will get underway on August 14th with the clash between Stoke and Chelsea, which is due to kick off at 13:30 BST.

On the previous day, ESPN is due to screen Newcastle United's home meeting with Arsenal, starting at 17:30.

Among the highlights of Sky Sports' first confirmed batch of games is the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool on October 1st, Manchester United v Manchester City the following day and Manchester United against Chelsea on September 18th.

ESPN subscribers, meanwhile, can look forward to the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City on August 28th, as well as Everton's visit to Chelsea on October 15th.

Managing director of Sky Sports Barney Francis pointed out that every Premier League club will appear in a live match on Sky before the end of November.

Jeroen Oerlemans, ESPN's vice president of TV channels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, added: "We're thrilled to start ESPN's third season of Barclay's Premier League coverage in the UK and Ireland with a great range of matches."
