The launch of digital TV service Project Canvas could boost demand for broadband across the UK, a new report has suggested.
Demand for fixed broadband services in the UK could be boosted by the launch of digital TV scheme Project Canvas, according to a new report.

Research by Morgan Stanley has revealed that the launch of internet-connected TV services could prove attractive to six million homes with broadband that are not currently paying for programming content.

It added that Canvas will increase the number of people seeking fixed internet access, with the likes of BT, TalkTalk and Sky likely to be able to extend the reach of their content services.

A final decision on the launch of the service is expected by the end of March, which means that the platform could be available to consumers at towards the final months of this year or early 2011.

Bundle provider TalkTalk is one of several companies to have signed up to support the scheme, alongside broadcasts including Channel 4, ITV and the BBC.
