Real Digital to launch next week
The first Real Digital personal video recorders will be on sale in the UK next week.

Real Digital, a new rival to Sky and Freesat, is set to launch in the UK next week and is planning further developments in the run-up to Christmas.

According to Wotsat, the digital TV platform will release a 15-channel premium package and ITV Player before the festive period arrives.

High-definition versions of US martial arts network Blackbelt TV and an as-yet-unnamed music channel are said to be included in the 15-channel package.

More than 190 free-to-air TV channels and 70 radio stations will feature on the Real Digital electronic programme guide, while pay TV services - set to premiere within the next three months - are expected to include Sky Sports 1 and 2.

No contract will be required to take advantage of the service and there is no minimum subscription period.

Last month, Real Digital used the IBC expo in Amsterdam to offer a sneak peek at its new look white personal video recorder unit, featuring a 500GB hard drive.

"We know this will be a winner with our customers," said marketing manager Paddy Latham.
