Hindi film channel Star Gold launches on Virgin Media

Hindi movies channel Star Gold has arrived on Virgin Media as part of the cable TV platform's Asian Mela package.
Part of the Star Network, the channel offers one of the world's largest catalogues of Bollywood films, all of which are available with English subtitles.
Star Gold is the latest addition to Virgin's Asian Mela proposition, which already included fellow Star Network services Star Life Ok and Star Plus.
Yeshpal Sharma, senior vice president for Star UK and Europe, said: "With the launch of Star Gold on Virgin Media - the UK's largest cable platform - the Star Network has further strengthened its offering to its loyal and growing UK viewers."
A fully owned subsidiary of News Corporation, Star Network reaches more than ten million UK households and claims to be "fast becoming" the world's top broadcaster for Asian entertainment.
The organisation recently sealed a multi-year carriage deal with Virgin Media's biggest rival in the pay TV market, Sky.
Under the agreement, the satellite broadcaster extended its distribution partnership for Star's range of Hindi-language movie and entertainment channels, while Star will be able to launch additional high-definition services.
