Internet users 'need help to discover their broadband usage'Friday, January 29th 2010 Broadband providers should create tools which allow their subscribers to learn about their levels of usage, an expert has claimed. Consumers need to be given more tools to help them discover how much of their broadband download allowance they use, according to an expert.
Edd Dawson, editor of Broadband.co.uk, made the comment after research by Broadbandchoices.co.uk revealed that over half of consumers who are paying for unlimited web usage are not taking full advantage of it.
The issue may mean many people are paying more than they need to for their broadband service.
Discussing the subject, Mr Dawson claimed that broadband providers should make it a priority to supply consumers with tools they need to discover their usage.
"The majority of broadband suppliers don't provide mechanisms for people to check what their monthly usage is, so people have to rely on articles which may not necessarily be as accurate and are not so easily available," he explained.
He added that the sector could learn "lessons from the mobile industry where there is clear and consistent visibility on usage".
