KC issues guidance on Safer Internet Day
Parents should check their browser history and talk to their children about the internet, according to KC.

KC has urged parents to regularly check their browser's history file in a bid to ensure their children are safe while using the web.

In advice issued to coincide with Safer Internet Day (February 7th 2012), the Hull-based telecoms firm encouraged broadband customers to help their families steer clear of harmful content and potentially dangerous websites.

Online safety is a growing concern, with two-thirds of children accessing the internet every day, but many parents are unsure of the best ways to keep their kids safe, the company claimed.

It recommended keeping up with technology by asking children for help or joining a basic internet class, as well as speaking to youngsters about their online friends and the sites they like to view.

Nick Thompson, director of consumer markets at KC, said: "Our Family Care service lets parents set specific times that each of their children can access the internet and determines which sites they can or can't visit."

Janice Richardson, coordinator at Safer Internet Day organiser Insafe, added web users should remember the speed of the internet, the anonymity it offers and its capacity to connect users around the world "in a matter of seconds".
