NAF says BT offers London's fastest broadband

BT's 100Mbps fibre optic broadband service has been rated as the fastest available in London by the New America Foundation (NAF).
In a new report, the organisation compared broadband connections offering the highest download and upload speeds in 22 cities.
While BT's product came out on top in London, it ranked 20th on the overall list, ahead of only Los Angeles and Mexico City.
Based on fibre optic broadband technology, the up to 100Mbps service delivers maximum upstream rates of 15Mbps and has no monthly data cap.
Hong Kong came out on top of the list, with its fastest package offering symmetrical speeds of 1,000Mbps for less than the price of BT's service.
The US city of Chattanooga appeared in second place. Although its symmetrical 1,000Mbps connection was just as fast as that available in Hong Kong, the overall price was around six times higher.
Researchers from the NAF compared 'speed leaders' from basic internet packages, without bundled services, unless the provider in question only offered bundles.
"While more internet service providers are offering symmetrical service, where the download and upload speeds are equal, most providers continue the standard practice of engineering their networks to maximise download speeds," the foundation said.
