Ofcom announces new protection for broadband customers
New measures designed to offer consumers better protection when signing up to broadband services have been launched by Ofcom.
Consumers who sign up to broadband services are set to be offered more protection from communications regulator Ofcom, it has been revealed.

From tomorrow (March 18th), the new rules will ensure that subscribers are not mis-sold bundle products or subjected to the concept of slamming, which sees them switched to another provider without their consent.

Under the new measures, offending home phone and broadband providers will face fines for being found guilty of such actions.

Ed Richards, chief executive of Ofcom, said consumers should not suffer from "dishonest" sales activity.

He added: "Ofcom will not hesitate to take enforcement action against firms who don't comply with the new rules."

Earlier this year, Ofcom welcomed the formation of a new organisation that will regulate the European telecoms market.

The Body of European Regulations in Electronic Communications will be responsible for a range of issues, including the shaping of measures for the introduction of fibre optic broadband across the continent.

When cable started it was promised that all households would have access. My street is not yet cabled and as far as I know there are no plans to do so. This restricts my options to obtain competitive broadband/TV and only allows me Sky tv
