Plusnet launches broadband traffic prioritisation bolt-on

Friday, May 6th 2011 by Paul France
The product guarantees subscribers lower latency, according to Plusnet.
Plusnet has announced the launch of a broadband bolt-on that is designed to give priority to customers that use the largest amounts of data.

The traffic prioritisation product is already in place on Plusnet's top-tier broadband package and can now be applied to the internet service provider's (ISP's) Value and Extra deals.

According to the company, the facility will be particularly useful for online gamers and home workers.

Jamie Ford, the ISP's chief executive, explained: "Just like paying a little extra to do a fast check-in at the airport, Plusnet Pro is for users who want to ensure the best possible internet experience."

He went on to insist the service is the best way for consumers to guarantee no rate limits and lower latency at any time.

This is especially important as many subscribers do not live in areas that are covered by fibre optic broadband, Mr Ford added.

The news comes just weeks after Plusnet premiered its new fibre broadband package, which offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps.

After testing the technology, Plusnet revealed three-quarters of trialists who previously received speeds of two to 12Mbps saw their line capabilities rise to 30Mbps or more.

Having just had plusnet fibre installed a month ago I have now had the time to asses the service. First 2 days service ran at 35mb=excellent.
After that speeds dropped to 25mb . On asking plusnet about the issue was told line sold as up to 40mb however what they didnt tell me was that my line is configured to run at 25859 which in plain language means it can never run up to 40mb so should have been sold as up to 26mb, It is my opinion that people are being misled by this large supplier. This can be checked by running bt speedtest and while waiting for the test to run your configuration speed will be shown
