Plusnet launches new Roundcube webmail service

Plusnet has announced the launch of its Roundcube-based webmail platform following a successful open trial of the service.
The internet service provider began the pilot scheme toward the end of last year and said it has been "really happy" with the results, leading Plusnet to remove the beta label and make the platform its default webmail proposition.
Bob Pullen of Plusnet explained the company's previous webmail offering will continue to operate in tandem with the new service for the next few months, before eventually being decommissioned.
Plusnet broadband customers who log into the new platform should find their address book entries have migrated across, although Mr Pullen warned there are some instances where this has not happened.
The Roundcube-based service replaces the previous solution, which was built using the SquirrelMail open source webmail software suite.
In a blog post last December, Mr Pullen acknowledged that SquirrelMail does not have "the prettiest of user interfaces", although he insisted that the platform has served Plusnet well over the years.
"Roundcube offers relatively basic functionality compared to some other webmail solutions, it has a clean interface, works well and does all that we ... need it to," he added.
