Plusnet seeks more customers for fibre broadband trial

Friday, January 7th 2011 by Editorial
The internet service provider has called on more of its subscribers to get involved in the test.
Plusnet is looking for more participants to get involved in its trial of fibre optic broadband.

The Yorkshire-based internet service provider explained it is testing out fibre to the cabinet, the technology used by BT Retail to power its Infinity product.

Adam Walker of Plusnet revealed the average download speed enjoyed by customers taking part in the scheme so far has been around 30Mbps, but he stressed that as a trial, it is possible for problems to develop.

Subscribers to the company's entry level broadband package, Value, should consider upgrading to the Extra or Pro propositions if they are keen to get involved in the test, Mr Walker added.

"You will most likely use a lot more bandwidth," he explained. "As you'd probably expect we've seen a massive increase in usage from our trialists."

Plusnet also began testing out fibre to the premises last summer, with the service offering download speeds of up to 100Mbps and a maximum upload capacity of 15Mbps.
