Rightmove to offer broadband speed estimate to home movers
Rightmove has linked up with Point Topic to offer information on broadband speeds to prospective home movers.
Online real estate portal Rightmove has rolled out a new service that allows browsers to find out the broadband speed available to any property listed on the site.
Powered by data provided by broadband research company Point Topic, the service highlights the typical broadband speed that can be received at each of the portal's one million homes.
Currently, the feature is only being operated on a trial basis, with broadband speed information being provided alongside other information about households - such as number of bedrooms and proximity to public transport services.
However, if the data proves popular with home movers over the next two months, it is likely to become a permanent addition to Rightmove's range of features in the new year.
The move comes in the wake of a recent report from UK banking chain Halifax, which revealed 30 per cent of people said the availability of good-quality broadband is likely to influence their decision on whether or not to purchase a home in a given area.
Bernard Phillips, Head of Consumer Platforms at Rightmove, said: "We're always looking at new ways to help home movers make the most informed decisions possible when choosing their next property, whether that's providing information about local schools, transport links or broadband speeds."
