Sky and Ofcom reach agreement over digital TV plans
Digital TV provider Sky has agreed a deal which will allow the likes of BT and Virgin Media to offer Sky Sports 1 and 2 as part of their bundles.
Sky's sports channels will be available through bundles from other digital TV providers later this year, it has been confirmed. The broadband, digital TV and home phone provider has reached an agreement with Ofcom which will see Sky Sports 1 and 2 made available via BT, Virgin Media and Top Up TV services.
Under the terms of the settlement, only those three companies can take part in the deal and they will have to pay the rate card price.
This will be in place until Sky's legal appeal to the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) over other aspects of Ofcom's plans to shake up the digital TV market has been concluded.
A spokesman for Sky said: "We are pleased to have been able to put forward an agreement which provides substantial protection against the short-term impacts of Ofcom's decision.
"We remain fully focused on our substantive appeal, which will be filed with the CAT in due course."
Sky previously described Ofcom's investigation into the digital TV market as "an unprecedented and unwarranted intervention".
