Sky gets exclusive broadcasting rights to HBO productionsUS network HBO's latest shows will be broadcast exclusively in the UK on Sky. Sky has agreed an exclusive deal to broadcast new HBO programmes via its digital TV channels.
Under the terms of the new multi-year agreement, Sky will have the sole rights to screen any new HBO-commissioned series or shows in the UK.
The first production to be shown will be Martin Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire, a drama starring the likes of Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald and Michael Pitt. It will make its US TV debut in September 2010, with its UK premiere following shortly after.
Classic HBO shows, including the likes of The Sopranos and Six Feet Under, are also set to be added to Sky's on-demand platforms.
"We are committed to bringing customers the best possible choice of pay content, whether that's through original UK production or the best of the US," commented Sky's managing director of entertainment, news and broadcast operations Sophie Turner Laing.
Earlier this week, Sky announced a tie-up with Channel 4 which will see it sponsor peak-time films shown across the latter's network. |
