Sky unveils Sky Go Android app launch plans
Sky has revealed the Android version of its Sky Go app will be available "in the coming months".

A version of the Sky Go video-on-demand application will be launched for Android smartphones in the near future, the satellite broadcaster has announced.

The app, which is already available for the Apple iPad and iPhone, will be available for Android handset users "in the coming months", a spokesperson told TechRadar.

Sky has always insisted Sky Go for Android would be released before the end of the year and the spokesperson insisted it is still on track to hit this deadline.

In its financial results for the three months to September 30th 2011, the pay TV giant revealed Sky Go had gained more than 1.6 million users across its various platforms since launching in July.

The service allows customers to watch live TV coverage on PCs, laptops, Macs, mobile devices and Xbox 360 consoles.

In August, subscribers used Sky Go to view more than 40 million pieces of content, of which 85 per cent was live programming and 15 per cent was on-demand footage.

"Sky Go has enabled Sky customers to make the most of their TV subscription, regardless of where they are," commented Holly Knill, head of Sky Player and mobile TV.
