Sky to offer HD news
A leading digital TV provider is to offer its news channel in high-definition from spring next year.
Digital TV provider Sky has revealed that it is to launch a new high-definition (HD) news channel.

The broadcaster intends to start showing Sky News HD in spring 2010 after an upgrade of studios, production facilities and newsgathering operations across the UK and overseas.

It is believed the move may drive more consumers towards the Sky HD TV package, which over one million people are already subscribed to.

Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of Sky, said the plans were "great news" for those customers.

He explained it would give them "access to award-winning breaking news in HD for the very first time" and expand "the choice on offer".

At the end of last month, Sky announced that its online TV service, the Sky Player, will be available to owners of broadband-enabled games consoles from the autumn
