Sky to share content?
New proposals could force Sky to make premium channels available to other broadcasters to increase competition in the digital TV market.
The UK's broadcasting regulator has outlined plans designed to create more competition in the digital TV market.

Ofcom's latest consulation has proposed that Sky's monopoly on the pay-TV market could be reduced if the company was forced to make its premium sports and film channels available through other rival retailers.

The body has claimed that move would give other firms the chance to promote "choice and innovation", while Sky's wholesale revenues may increase due to the wider availability.

In a statement, Ofcom added: "We do not believe that this proposed remedy would have a disproportionate impact on Sky, since we consider the proposed prices are above the level required to allow Sky a reasonable return on its content costs."

Responses to the plans are being accepted by the body until September 18th.

The digital TV market has been pushed into the limelight recently due to the announcement earlier this week that sports broadcaster Setanta has entered administration.
