Sky's HD digital TV service drives growth
Digital TV provider Sky has revealed its growth in the first quarter of this year was driven by the performance of its HD services.
Bundle provider Sky enjoyed strong growth in the first three months of 2010 thanks to the performance of its high definition (HD) digital TV services.

The company said its decision to cut the price of its HD set-top boxes led to net additions of 428,000 over the period, which marked a 76 per cent increase on 12 months earlier.

In addition, the number of consumers taking all three of its digital TV, home phone and broadband packages rose by 39 per cent year-on-year, which helped to take the firm's average revenue per user over £500 for the first time.

Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of Sky, said the results show that the firm's financial performance is "accelerating" as the firm focuses investment on broadband and HD.

He added: "Our focus on delivering an outstanding service for customers positions us well for sustainable growth in shareholder returns."

New Media Age recently reported that Sky is set to bring red-button advertising on its digital TV channels to an end.
