TalkTalk: Broadband users to forget about email in a decadeTuesday, November 17th 2009 Broadband provider TalkTalk has claimed that email could no longer be in use within the next ten years. Broadband provider TalkTalk has suggested that email may no longer be a popular platform within ten years' time.
The company has undertaken research into internet habits with a social anthropologist from the University of Kent and discovered that two million "first lifers" - people in their early 20s who are tech-savvy but do not like being stuck behind a desk - live in the UK.
According to the study, almost half of those people do not use email anymore, as they prefer the likes of Twitter and Facebook while on the web, as well as text messaging when on the move.
Mark Schmid of TalkTalk said: "Increasingly people want to send quick, short messages reaching many people in one go, and there are now better ways of doing that than via email.
"Based on the trends we're seeing now, email could well be on its last legs by the end of the next decade."
TalkTalk recently announced the launch of its new Pro package, which offers users speeds of up to 24Mbps.
