Virgin Media offers fastest broadband
New Ofcom analysis has shown Virgin Media's broadband services are the fastest in the UK.

Virgin Media's superfast broadband services have performed better than its rivals' in a new download speed assessment by Ofcom.

As part of the telecoms regulator's latest broadband report, 12 leading internet packages were assessed, with the company's 100Mbps package shown to be the fastest by delivering average actual speeds of 88.3Mbps over a 24-hour period.

Of the other superfast services included in the assessment, Virgin's up to 60Mbps package delivered average speeds of 55.9Mbps, which is competitive with BT Infinity's 76Mbps service, which actually supplied speeds of 58.5Mbps.

Meanwhile, Virgin's up to 30Mbps package was shown to slightly exceed its own headline figure, with average speeds of 30.1Mbps recorded during the trial period.

Virgin has now been recognised by Ofcom as the fastest broadband provider in the UK for four consecutive years.

However, it was also shown that a higher proportion of Virgin Media cable customers saw speeds drop to less than 90 per cent of their average maximum speed at busy peak periods than BT Infinity fibre customers.
