Twitter, Facebook and MySpace are all popular ways for firms to keep in touch with customers, according to Virgin Media Business.
Virgin Media Business has revealed that Twitter has become the most popular social network with corporate users in the UK.Figures from the business broadband provider have revealed that 33 per cent of companies use the microblogging service to communicate with customers, compared to 32 per cent that use Facebook.
More than a quarter of firms were also found to interact with the public via MySpace, reports tech news site IT Pro.
Executive director for commercial operations at Virgin Media Business Andrew McGrath said enterprises across the country are adopting "a unique mix of communications tools" that are designed to be suited to their local market.
"British businesses have been quick to see the opportunities that lie within social media and are helping lead the world in targeting this new form of media," he added.
The marketing potential of social media was highlighted earlier this year when Facebook revealed it now has more than 500 million active users.
