Remote learning could help to combat the issue of insufficient places at university.
Virgin Media's business broadband subsidiary has advised universities to make more distance learning opportunities available by utilising a range of technologies.

Record numbers of school leavers are set to miss out on attending uni this year due to a shortage of places, an issue which Virgin Media Business has claimed can be rectified if these educational organisations take advantage of services such as webinar software.

Head of public sector south for the broadband provider Gerry Arthurs explained this would allow staff to deliver lectures remotely and also enables students to interact with each other.

However, Mr Arthurs stated that effective distance learning is not all about technology.

"Complementing remote learning with a periodic lecture or seminar in a central location where students can be there in person can also be of benefit," he was quoted by PC Advisor as saying.

Last month, Virgin Media Business claimed people who graduate from university value the opportunity to work flexibly over earning a good salary.
