Virgin Media dismisses new BT fibre optic broadband service
Fibre optic cable broadband provider Virgin Media has criticised a high-speed internet service launched by its rival BT.
BT's new Infinity fibre optic broadband service is not a threat to Virgin Media, a spokeswoman for the latter has suggested.

Talking to the Guardian, the insider was critical of the use of a 20GB a month usage cap on the new platform, which is believed to be lower than the download allowance available through many other providers.

In addition, the Virgin Media spokeswoman claimed its own service offers a number of benefits.

She told the newspaper: "We're not sure why people in the UK would want to wait for BT's 40Mbps service which hasn't launched yet, when they can already get Virgin Media's great value 50Mbps service.

"People throughout the country are already enjoying all the fantastic things you can do online with the UK's fastest broadband service."

BT recently suggested that Virgin Media subscribers could save over £7 a month by switching to the Option 1 tariff on its Infinity platform.
