Virgin Media exec says convergence breeds innovation

Virgin Media has created some "interesting and innovative products" through combining its entertainment and mobile strategies, an executive from the cable company has said.
Paul Withers, director of mobile at Virgin Media, told Mobile News that there are "a lot of opportunities" to bring together services such as its TiVo-powered next-generation cable TV platform with its mobile packages.
"There are certainly benefits as far as our ability to offer differentiated and innovative products into market that others can't offer," he explained.
Mr Withers went on to state that offering a wide variety of services offers "great value" for customers, persuading them to stay loyal to the Virgin Media brand.
Subscribers who take a bundle of communications and entertainment products are less likely to move to another provider than those who only have one service, he said.
Virgin's most recent financial results publication shows just under two-thirds of the pay TV broadcaster's customers were signed up to triple bundles at the end of the second quarter, while almost nine in ten took two or three services.
