Virgin Media launches Star Trek app for TiVo service

Virgin Media has bolstered its TiVo proposition with the launch of an interactive app dedicated to the long-running sci-fi series Star Trek.

The app, which was added to the TiVo platform on Wednesday (June 27th 2012), ties in with pay TV channel CBS Action's exclusive rights to broadcast Star Trek: The Digitally Remastered Original Series.

Every episode of the series will be available to watch via the app shortly after it airs on CBS Action, while other features will include on-demand access to rare documentaries and the 1970s Star Trek animated series.

Users will also have the chance to view interviews with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei and other members of the USS Enterprise crew.

An array of exclusive original content - such as interactive games, monthly quizzes and footage from Star Trek conventions - will also be available on the app.

Aleks Habdank, director of digital entertainment product at Virgin Media, said: "The app is a great addition to our line-up and it's been hugely rewarding to work with CBS Action to create special exclusive elements that only our customers can enjoy."

Other apps on the TiVo platform include YouTube, Facebook and BBC iPlayer.
