'Meaner and leaner' TiVo service promised by Virgin Media
Details of the update to Virgin Media's TiVo service have been unveiled by the cable company.

Virgin Media has promised this week's major update to its TiVo service will make the next-generation entertainment platform "meaner and leaner".

Among the new features included in the upgrade, which began rolling out to customers yesterday (November 17th 2011), is the addition of express series link functionality to the TiVo personal video recorder, reports Digital Spy.

The update will involve several other enhancements, such as greater integration of the BBC iPlayer app, a new look for the YouTube app and the extension of recording times, which will begin one minute before a show starts and finish four minutes after it is scheduled to end.

In a statement, Virgin Media explained the rollout is its first "major boost" in the ongoing development of its TiVo cable TV product.

"We've been listening to customer feedback and have made some tucks and tweaks here and there to make TiVo even meaner and leaner," the cable company added.

Virgin Media has already rolled out several enhancements for the TiVo service, including the launch of a remote recording application for Android smartphones in July.

The download allows customers to browse the TV guide and record their favourite programmes while they are on the move.
