Virgin Media to kick off with HD World Cup coverageSubscribers to Virgin Media's digital TV service will be able to enjoy HD coverage of the upcoming World Cup, it has been announced. High-definition (HD) coverage of the upcoming football World Cup is to be made available through Virgin Media's digital TV service. The company, which also offers home phone and broadband packages, has agreed a deal which will see the ITV1 HD channel added to its line-up of TV channels at the start of April. As part of the deal, sports fan will be able to get HD coverage of the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup and the World Cup, as well as access to a range of drama and documentaries. Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said ITV was home to many much-loved programmes. She added: "This year's World Cup promises some unforgettable games and Virgin Media TV viewers will be able to enjoy every nail-biting, heart-stopping, breath-taking moment in stunning HD." Virgin Media recently confirmed it is trialling the delivery of fibre optic broadband services via telegraph poles as part of a project in Berkshire.
