Virgin Media to upgrade broadband speeds in Lincoln
Virgin Media is aiming to double broadband speeds in Lincoln by 2013.

Virgin Media has announced it is planning to double broadband speeds in the city of Lincoln over the course of the next 12 months.

Lincoln has been selected as one of the first cities to benefit from the Double Speeds programme, which gives free automatic upgrades to users of the current service.

According to a report by the Lincolnite, consumers on the 10Mbps, 20Mbps, 30Mbps and 50Mbps Virgin Media broadband plans will see speeds doubled by the middle of 2013.

Executive director of broadband at Virgin Media Jon James said the cable company is "delighted" to be boosting the broadband speeds of its customers in Lincoln again.

Lincoln's standings in the world broadband speed league tables will be set to benefit as a result of the investment in the city's internet infrastructure.

The Double Speeds programme was launched by Virgin Media in March this year, with the company claiming it is going to reach 1.5 million households all over the country.

Mr James stated the announcement will mean the firm's customers will be able to access super-fast broadband speeds as standard.
