YouView confirms expansion of set-top box trial

YouView has confirmed the expansion of its public beta trial to more than 2,000 homes.
The internet protocol TV product, which is backed by major broadcasters and broadband providers such as BT, the BBC and TalkTalk, launched an initial pilot of its set-top box last month involving just 350 households.
YouView has already been tested by around 100 employees of the joint venture's members, but this new trial reflects the wider viewing audience by drawing on a demographically-selected consumer base.
Delayed since 2010, the first commercially available YouView box is set to be introduced before the end of this year, although an exact launch date is yet to be confirmed.
Explaining the benefits of its broadband-connected TV service, YouView said it will offer customers subscription-free access to linear, catch-up and on-demand TV channels from a single box.
Content from BBC iPlayer, 4oD, ITV Player and Demand 5 will be available on the platform.
"YouView will also allow viewers to scroll back to catch up on their favourite TV, search with their remote control and record, rewind, pause and watch in high definition," the company added.
