More about Sky Broadband Base

Existing customers of Sky Talk and Sky TV who have not yet taken advantage of the Sky Broadband Base offer really have nothing to stop them. Since you are already paying Sky Talk line rental and have paid for installation in the past, Sky will provide you with this basic broadband connection and all of the necessary equipment without any monthly outlay whatsoever.

The 2Mbps connection that is on offer is fine for most purposes, including web browsing, sending emails and some light downloading. However, downloading large files or streaming long videos will quickly eat into your monthly data allowance which is just 2GB.

If you have not already got broadband in your home then this is the introductory package that you should consider above all others. Sky Broadband Base is also open to those who are not yet Sky Talk customers.

You will need to set up a Sky Talk or Sky TV account and pay all of the necessary set up and installation fees that relate to your chosen service and package stipulations. New customers will also be able to access the Sky Broadband Base connection for free and there is a minimum 12 month contract.

However, if you do not wish to take Sky Talk but do want to become a Sky TV customer with Base broadband access then there is a small monthly charge to pay. If you do decide to become a Sky Talk customer you can have free broadband as well as free evening and weekend calls to UK landline numbers with the Sky Talk Freetime package.

These are both deals that will not add a penny to your monthly bill, but they do of course require a contractual commitment and work on an opt-in system. Sky Broadband Base includes a free wireless router which has a market value of £50.

You will also get a free 3 month licence to McAfee's internet security suite that will ably repel any malicious broadband-born software and spy-ware. To find out if you are able to receive the Sky Broadband Base package in your home you will need to enter your telephone number into the area checker.

If you are outside of Sky's coverage area you can still get a Sky Broadband connection, but you will have to pay considerably more each month because Sky will be renting connection from BT and selling it on to you.

Both new and existing Sky customers should read all of the small print carefully, but also be aware that Sky Broadband Base represents a great low level broadband connection.
