With the approach of the world cup next year, many people will buy HD ready TVs in order to watch the games on the big screen. However, if you are going to stick with digital freeview the image will be viewable at a fraction of the screen's potential.

For that reason you will want to get an HD service to compliment the high resolution TV you have spent all that money on. Sky currently have the most HD channels available to their customers, with a maximum of 28 available. The channels which you can receive in HD depends on the packages that you have chosen.

For example, if you want to watch all of the sport in HD then you will definitely want to sign up to the sports package, which will then include the HD channels. Sport is perhaps the biggest beneficiary of the HD resolution. With a live HD picture you will be able to pick out each and every detail of the match.

It is not just the sports channels that get the HD treatment. If you have the knowledge pack selected then you can watch the best documentaries in the world on National Geographic HD or Discovery HD.

It is difficult to express in words the difference that an HD image makes, but if you have the right television equipment at home then there is little to stop you signing up to Sky+ HD right away. The package also includes a Sky+ HD set top box which is currently offered at a reduced price.
