Fibre broadband deal of the week: BT Infinity fibre 52Mb, £50 off set-up, inclusive calls, £31.99 p/m

Friday, October 13th 2017 by Dan Howdle
BT’s basic fibre is substantially faster than those of its Openreach network-sharing rivals (everyone but Virgin Media, basically). As a premium offering you’ll never find this deal in the bargain bin, so to speak, but right now, with BT waiving the lion’s share of the set-up cost, it’s about as cheap as you’re going to find it.

From a price perspective, BT’s unlimited Infinity 1 fibre broadband isn’t the cheapest out there. But that’s because BT offers a more premium service than you’ll get with many of the more bare-bones services offered at a cheaper monthly premium. BT offers a (much) better router, 200GB cloud storage, free BT virus protection and, of course, 14Mbps more speed than the closest competition. When it comes to broadband, you tend to get what you pay for.

Normally, BT will charge you an eye-watering £59.99 to get its fibre broadband set up, which is what makes this particular deal – available till 19 October – particularly special. Take a look:

Though BT’s 52Mbps service represents its slowest fibre offering, its fastest is only moderately quicker. Plus, 52Mbps is actually very speedy indeed when compared to the needs of the average household. You only need about 8Mbps to stream Netflix in high definition, for example. With 52Mbps six of you could do that at the same time. It’s plenty.

The only criticism I have of this deal as it stands is that unlike at other times of the year – and unlike some competitor deals on right now – BT isn’t offering any free gifts or cashback right now. I’ve included some deals that do offer freebies at the bottom of this article if you’re looking for that extra bit of value. Alternatively you could wait a few weeks till BT resumes its own cashback offers. Irrespectively, this BT offering is still going to render an excellent broadband service.

You’ll also get free weekend calls to UK landlines with this deal. Whether or not that factors in your decision obviously comes down to whether or not you’re likely to use it. More and more of us are relying entirely on our mobiles for everyday phone calls, primarily out of convenience – smart phones are also where most of us store our contacts.

As promised earlier, here are some of the best deals on right now from other providers, some offering faster speeds and other combinations of goodies.
