How to compare and buy Plusnet packages
How do I compare different packages?
Plusnet is known for offering some of the cheapest deals on the market and provides a variety of packages to suit each household. You can use our comparison table above to browse packages and then click on a package you like to get a breakdown of the deal.
Plusnet’s services are only available in certain areas. You can use our checker at the top of the page to see if it’s on offer where you are. Just insert your postcode and we will give you a list of deals to choose from.
Check the detail
It’s always important to go through the terms and conditions before buying a broadband package. This is where you will find information on contract length, cancellation fees, data allowance and any hidden costs. It’s always tempting to just skim through the small print, but read it all carefully to make sure you’re happy with the details.
Why choose a Plusnet package?
Cheap broadband packages
If you want to lessen your financial burden, then you may want to go for a broadband deal from Plusnet. With low prices and fibre optic speeds of up to 76Mbps, you’ll be getting quite a deal.
Unlimited usage on all packages
All Plusnet’s residential packages come with unlimited usage, so there will be nothing to limit your online fun. You’ll be able to download as much as you like without having to worry about being charged for going over your allowance or being artificially slowed down. Plus, if you are an online gamer, you will benefit from Plusnet’s traffic management policy, which prioritises time-sensitive activities.
A UK-based customer service team
Plusnet provides 24/7 customer service and its offices are based in the UK. So whenever you have an issue, you can call the support team at any time of day. It has also been formally recognised for its support services and has won many customer service awards.
Pros & cons
- Cheap broadband packages
- Unlimited usage on all packages
- UK-based customer service
- Price depends on location
- Some activities subject to traffic management
- Not the fastest broadband provider
Which package is right for me?
If you don’t want to pay for a call plan, then you may want to go for this package. Plusnet is one of only a few providers to offer a broadband-only package, with a choice of either standard or fibre services. Speeds range from a modest up to 17Mbps, to a speedy 76Mbps. You will still need a landline if you want to take broadband only, but it doesn't have to be with Plusnet.
Broadband and phone
If you rely on your home phone, it may be a good idea to go for this package. As well as broadband, you’ll be able to either just pay as you go if you make calls infrequently or sign up to an anytime calls package for a few pounds a month and talk as often as you like without worrying about racking up huge bills.
Plusnet also offers a variety of business broadband packages, offering the same speeds but different features and extras from the home broadband packages. These include a static IP address, free web domains and email addresses, and a high level of technical support.
What will I need?
A fibre optic cable
To enjoy Plusnet’s fibre speeds, you’ll need a fibre optic cable installed. When you order your package, you can arrange a time for an engineer to visit your home. You can use the availability checker at the top of the page to see which Plusnet services are available in your area.
A wireless router for your broadband
You’ll receive a free wireless router from Plusnet when you sign up. This will provide your broadband connection, enabling you to connect various devices wirelessly. There will be a set of instructions that will help you to get started.
How do I switch?
Decide which package is right for you
You can choose a Plusnet package from the table above. By clicking on the package, you’ll get a breakdown of what’s included. This will give you information on a number of features, including channels, extra costs and pricing. Once you have decided on a package, click on the blue ‘See Deal’ button, and you’ll be redirected to Plusnet’s website where you can finalise your purchase.
Cancellation is often automatic
Once you have purchased your package, your new provider will generally contact your old one and cancel on your behalf. This means you won’t have to lift a finger; unless, that is, you’re moving to Plusnet from Virgin Media. In this instance you will have to contact Virgin Media manually to tell them that you’re cancelling and moving to Plusnet.
Six essential questions before you buy
- How much speed do I need?
- How often do I use my home phone?
- Are the services available in my area?
- What is my budget?
- Will a broadband-only package benefit me in the long run?
- Have I read the terms and conditions?
Now you have all the information you need, it’s time to make a decision. First, decide on whether you want to purchase a broadband-only or broadband and phone deal, then take it from there. But make sure you read through the small print before purchasing any package.
