How to compare and buy Virgin Media bundles
How do I compare different packages?
Virgin Media’s Big Bundles are predominantly built around a mixture of broadband, TV and phone packages. They are priced to suit most pockets and are weighted towards any level of engagement so, with the help of our handy comparison table, you should be able to find the right one.
Virgin Media’s service is not available to every home in the UK, so you’ll need to check whether you can get it in your area before you start comparing. Just put your postcode into the box at the top of the page and it will show you what you can get.
Check the detail
Virgin’s bundles are all either 12-months or 18-months long and come with a wealth of options to pick and choose from, and sometimes come with introductory rate. To make sure you don’t receive a nasty surprise further down the line, make sure you check all the details of your chosen bundle before you click through to buy.
Why choose a Virgin Media bundle?
The fastest broadband widely available in the UK, Virgin offers three broadband speeds with its bundles. They are 50Mbps, 100Mbps and 200Mbps, the latter of which is the fastest broadband widely available in the UK. Virgin Media only use fibre optic cables, so even its slowest speed is still perfect for streaming, downloading and keeping all your devices online.
A great range of TV suitable for all viewers
Virgin has a great range of TV on offer with its bundles, from the fairly standard Freeview channels through to Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, BT Sports and a wealth of HD channels. As with Virgin’s broadband, there should be a bundle that mirrors your engagement with TV.
You can keep in touch with friends and family with Virgin’s call plans
All Virgin’s Big Bundles come with a call plan, be it for weekends to UK landlines or an anytime plan. With all plans you’ll get free calls to 0870 and Virgin Mobile numbers. You can also add a mobile SIM to your bundle if you do most of your talking on the move.

Which package is right for me?
Virgin Media has five main bundles to offer its customers.
The Player Bundle
The Player is the entry-level package and is the most limited with regards to what it can offer. Even so, there is plenty here to keep most households occupied. It comes with 50Mbps fibre optic broadband, over 70 free-to-air TV channels with nine in HD, a 500GB TiVo box and unlimited weekend calls. It’s moderately priced and suitable for those with a limited requirement, but who still want a fast broadband speed.
The Mix Bundle
The next step up from the Player is the Mix Bundle. This offers 50Mbps broadband, over 150 TV channels with 10 in HD, a 500GB TiVo box and unlimited weekend calls. It also includes 10 Sky channels including Sky 1, Sky Living and Sky News, giving you a better range of entertainment channels. The Mix is perfect for households that want a fast broadband connection and a good selection of channels.
The Fun Bundle
The Fun Bundle is an extensive package with a lot on offer. It comes with 100Mbps broadband, over 190 channels, with 10 in HD, including a selection of Sky channels, BT Sport HD, a 500GB TiVo box and unlimited weekend calls. You get a good range of kids channels with the Fun bundle, as well as factual channels such as Discovery and National Geographic. This bundle has a wide range of features and, as it comes with quite a high price tag, is suitable for households who love their TV and broadband.
The Full House Bundle
The Full House comes with Virgin's top 200Mbps broadband and over 245 channels, with 50 in HD. You also get all the BT Sport channels in HD. As with the other bundles, you get the 500GB TiVo box and unlimited weekend calls. One of the major draws of the Full Bundle is BT Sport, which gives you access to a number of live Premiership football matches, as well as a raft of other sports. You can choose to boost your Full House package still further by adding Sky Sports or Sky Cinema.
The VIP Bundle
The VIP probably offers more content than one family can consume. You get 200Mbps broadband, over 245 TV channels including over 60 HD channels, 44 Sky channels, BT Sport, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema (all in HD), a 1TB TiVo box and unlimited anytime calls. The VIP is perfect for those with either an enormous household or a voracious appetite for entertainment (or both). It’s the most expensive bundle Virgin Media offers, but it means that you’ll never have to leave your living room again.
What will I need?
An engineer visit
An engineer will need to pay a visit to install your bundle. This should happen in the first two weeks of making your initial order, and can be organised to a time when you’re in. This visit is usually free if you but your package online, but be sure to check when you place your order.
A set-top box
Virgin offer two set-top boxes with its bundles, the TiVo 500GB, or the larger capacity TiVo 1TB. This will allow you to watch and record all your favourite shows and lets you watch HD or 3D content (assuming you have a HD or 3D TV). The 500GB box can hold up to 250 hours of content, while the 1TB box contains enough space for 500 hours.
How do I switch?
Work out which bundle is right for you
After you’ve checked that you can get Virgin Media in your area, you’ll need to decide which bundle is right for you. This might mean writing out a list of what you currently have and what you’d like to change, chances are there’s a bundle that suits your viewing habits, so that’s the one to plump for. Make sure you’ve read through the fine print of the bundle and you know what the monthly cost is, negating any short-term introductory offers and adding line rental.
Tell your provider you’re leaving
When you know which bundle is right for you, you’ll need to contact Virgin Media and tell it that you’re thinking of switching. You’ll also need to contact your current provider and tell it that you’re leaving. This will probably result in you being put though to a retention department, but if you’ve made up your mind to leave, you should be firm with it. Some providers will charge you for leaving your contract early, so make sure you’re out of your contract period when you switch.
Six essential questions before you buy
- Do you want a broadband, TV and phone bundle?
- Are you comfortable with switching?
- How fast do you need your broadband to be?
- How much TV do you watch?
- Do you want to add a mobile SIM onto your deal?
- Do you want Sky Cinema and Sky Sports?
It’s easy to get drawn into the incredible amount of content on offer by the top-end packages, but it would be foolish to get drawn into an 18-month contract with a service that expensive if you wouldn’t feel the full benefit of all of your services. Plan ahead and make sure you’re getting the right bundle for you.
