Virgin Media Special Offers for October 2015
How do I compare different packages?
Before you start looking at Virgin Media’s deals, you should make sure that Virgin Media is the right thing for you. We’ve highlighted a couple of factors to consider before you take the plunge with it.
Check whether the service is available
Virgin Media offers the fastest commercially available broadband in the UK, which is all well and good, if you can get it. Before you set your heart on its fastest connection, with speeds of up to 152Mb, it’s worth making sure that speed is available in your area. You can use the availability checker at the top of the page to find out what is available in your area.
Consider bundling the services you want
Virgin offers broadband, TV and phone services so you can save money by taking all three services from the one provider, but it's important to understand how these are organised. Broadband comes in three speeds, and can be with or without a dedicated phone landline. If you then add a TV package you have to get a landline and an associated phone line package. The TV packages are organised in collections, each with different channels to appeal to different audiences.
Check the details
You should also work out if switching is something you definitely want to do. Make sure you read up on any hidden costs, such as installation or delivery charges, as these may sour what you thought was a good offer. It’s best to know the facts of the deal before you commit.
Why choose Virgin Media?
There are three typical reasons to opt for Virgin Media.
Virgin Media broadband is really fast
If speed is what you’re after, then Virgin Media has got you covered. All Virgin broadband deals come in three speeds, up to 50Mb, up to 100Mb and up to 152Mb. As mentioned earlier, this is the fastest widely available broadband speed in the UK and Virgin already held this distinction even before increased all of of its speeds in February.
You don't need to get a landline with Virgin Media broadband
Virgin Media is the only provider which does not require you to have a landline with your broadband, which can save you money if you don't need a phone at home and can survive with just your mobile. This is as increasingly popular option, but only applies if you don't want a TV
Virgin Media has a good customer service record
Looking at the most recent Ofcom report (published at the end of 2013) Virgin Media scored well in the four overall categories. For landline providers it came out top with 74 per cent customer satisfaction, for broadband it was joint top with 71 per cent satisfaction, for TV it was second with 77 per cent and for mobile it scored 71 per cent.
Pros & cons
- High speeds
- Bundled services
- Customer satisfaction
- High speeds are not available everywhere
- It’s not the cheapest broadband provider
- Complex traffic management system

It's worth remembering that Virgin offers mobile phone services as well. While you can't get a bundle which also includes mobile phone with your broadband, TV and landline phone, you will be able to access some special mobile deals as a Virgin customer. One example is the VIP SIM-only package, which normally has a 2GB usage cap but is unlimited for existing Virgin broadband, landline or TV customers.
What will I need?
An 18-month contract
If you’re after a Virgin collection, you’re going to have to commit to it for 18 months. You’ll find that the majority of the best broadband deals will ask for this level of commitment.
A connection to Virgin
Virgin Media uses fibre optic cable to supply its broadband, and you will need this installed at your property to receive its services. Fibre optic cables aren’t as widely available as ADSL lines, so it’s worth conducting an availability check at the top of this page to see what you can receive. Installation charges apply as well, so make sure you factor that in when you price out your bundle.
How do I switch?
Before you make a decision, it’s worth making a list of your requirements and fathoming out which package best suits your needs. You can use our availability tracker at the top of the page and our speed test to help judge what you may need. After that, and having spent a bit of time on our broadband comparison table, you can go directly to the deal you’re after by clicking on the blue ‘See Deal’ button above.
Six essential questions before you buy
- How much do you want to pay?
- Can you get Virgin Media broadband in your area?
- How many TV channels do you want?
- Do you want a phone line?
- Are you at the end of your current contract?
- Are you comfortable with switching to a new provider?
It’s easy to get swept away with the choice and introductory deals available to new Virgin Media customers, but beware the actual cost of owning one of the top end bundles. Virgin offers an impressive array of TV channels and fast broadband speeds, but will you be getting good value from these services if you opt for them?
It’s essential that you compare broadband deals from different providers when you’re looking for the perfect package. It’s also a good idea to work out what you need and find the best solution for you, rather than diving in at the deep end and getting a top-of-the-range package you might not really need.
